You’ve seen it on TV and in the media. But what is The Giving Tree?

The now famous Giving Tree was originally created to be a fun alternative to the traditional Secret Santa, when instead of buying anonymous ‘joke’ gifts for colleagues, the Giving Tree encourages people to buy a toy or gift for a disadvantaged child who might otherwise receive very little – or in some cases – nothing at all at Christmas.

Originally just for Christmastime, the Giving Tree has now become a heart-warming concept that runs 365 days a year, providing the opportunity for our kind supporters to buy toys, gifts and fun experiences for children who need it most, via our Giving Tree, Fun & Happiness Shop.

With Christmas not on most people’s radar in August, it’s not the case for the staff at KidsOut. With over 54,000 (year 2023) toys required to ensure that no child we support goes without something to open on the big day, our team and volunteers are already busy working hard fundraising and starting to appeal for support from kind people like you.

The difference you make

The following email from a mother in refuge why the Giving Tree is so important:

“I don’t know how to thank you enough for the Barbies for my girls. I felt I was failing them. I had no money to buy them something this year as they needed some new clothes as they are growing so much. Being able to give them something brand new on Christmas Day meant so much to me. You are angels.”

How it works

Rather than spend money on joke gifts for colleagues this Christmas, why not instead buy something for a child that could potentially be the only present they will receive.
