The Giving Tree
Ditch Secret Santa and bring the true meaning of Christmas
to children who have nothing
You’ve seen it on TV and in the media – but what exactly is The Giving Tree?
The now famous Giving Tree was originally created to be a fun alternative to the traditional Secret Santa, when instead of buying anonymous ‘joke’ gifts for colleagues, the Giving Tree encourages people to buy a toy for a disadvantaged child who might otherwise receive very little – or in some cases – nothing at all at Christmas.
Thanks to you, last Christmas we were able to gift 77,803 toys to children, including 6,558 boxes of 10 brand-new toys to children who had fled domestic abuse and live in refuge, plus a further 12,223 toys to disadvantaged children, who have life-limiting disabilities, are carers, or are affected by economic hardship.
How it works:
Rather than spend money on joke gifts for colleagues this Christmas, why not instead buy something for a child that could potentially be the only present they will receive.
We’ll send your organisation a famous Giving Tree tag for all those taking part. Each tree tag has the name of a child in refuge and the present that they or their parent has said they would love to receive from Father Christmas.
You can choose to buy the gift yourself from a shop of your choice, or there is a QR code on each tag that links online to our Giving Tree, Fun & Happiness Shop where the gift you buy will be kept safe in our warehouse ready to be delivered alongside other gifts for children in refuge in time for Christmas.
If you choose to buy a physical toy you can either deliver it to one of our Collection Points or post it to us.
We’ll let your company or organisation know when the presents have been delivered to a refuge. Plus, those who choose to buy something for a child from the Giving Tree Fun & Happiness Shop you will also be personally notified when the presents have arrived in a refuge.
Last year we gifted 77,803 toys to children at Christmas but we still need more
The famous Giving Tree and it’s Fun & Happiness Shop
The Giving Tree was originally created to be a fun alternative for the traditional Secret Santa, when instead of buying anonymous gifts for colleagues, the Giving Tree encourages people to buy a toy or gift for a disadvantaged child.
However, now the Giving Tree has become a heart-warming concept that runs 365 days a year, providing the opportunity for our kind supporters, to buy toys, gifts and Fun Days Out for children who need it most, when they need them most.
The toys you donate will provide a sense of hope, comfort and support to children, allowing them to experience the simple pleasure of play and helping them feel valued and cared for.
Each week, KidsOut provides thousands of toys for children who have escaped domestic abuse or are disadvantaged or have life-limiting conditions.
Please get in touch if you would like to take part in our Giving Tree campaign and would like to discuss providing a collection point for gifts, or where you can drop-off your gifts.
Other ways your company may be able to help
with The Giving Tree
If you or your organisation can provide new toys, tickets to the cinema, theatre, or any events suitable for children, or provide storage for toys during the lead up to Christmas we would love to hear from you.
How to donate for your Giving Tree
How to create your own office Giving Tree
If you have a Christmas tree in your workplace why not hang our free Giving Tree tags for every gift you buy for a child in need.
To buy a gift, just go to The Giving Tree Shop, select the products you would like to buy for a child or children and make your purchase at the checkout. You will also be asked if you want to include Gift Aid on your donation.
Once your transaction is complete, you will receive confirmation of your purchase and your gift will be delivered directly to KidsOut for distribution to a refuge in time for opening on Christmas morning.
