KidsOut enabled 40 children to enjoy Fun Days out to cooking workshops with Smart Raspberry. The Fun Days took place between October and December 2019 in Leighton Buzzard, Leicester, and London.
In Leighton Buzzard, the children put their newly learned cookery skills to the test to make tasty treats to take home for the Halloween half term!
Attendees followed the instructor step by step to create ‘creepy cupcakes’ and ‘spooky pizzas’. A support worker told KidsOut that these cookery workshops enable the children to “gain new skills to use now and later in life, meet new friends, listen and follow instructions, and learn to ask for help when needed – key skills needed in adult life”.
A child who attended the workshop showed their enthusiasm by asking “when can we come again!?”
In Leicester, children baked calzone followed by cheesecake. A member of staff from one of the refuges supported by KidsOut informed the team that “the children really enjoyed this activity and it really established a love of cooking from baking and preparing the dishes. I think the children have definitely benefitted from this as it really helps with their concentration skills.”
One child enthusiastically reported that the workshop “was the best morning ever”, with a mother adding that is was “an exciting day for all.”
For KidsOut’s first ever Smart Raspberry workshop in London, the children worked together to create Greek pasta salad, followed by a sweet treat for dessert. KidsOut received some lovely feedback from those who attended, with one child saying “this was the best day ever!”
KidsOut look forward to hearing what the children make at our cooking workshop Fun Days with Smart Raspberry in 2020!
