On Wednesday 23rd October 2019, KidsOut arranged for a group of children from a refuge in Northampton to attend a clay building workshop at Potz Ceramic Studio, Northampton.
Arts and crafts toys and activities are often some of the most requested items from mothers in KidsOut’s Toy Box service. Because of this popularity, the KidsOut team were keen to expand the arts and crafts theme into some of its Fun Days towards the end of 2019.
The children followed the instructor step by step to create a clay piece to take away with them at the end of the workshop. The children were able to decorate their clay work however they liked, making it an enjoyable and memorable experience for all who attended.
One mother told KidsOut that “it was lovely to see my daughter trying things on her own and learning to ask for help when she needed it without always relying on me”.
Workshops such as these improve children’s listening and social skills, as well as promoting their independence.
