The national children’s charity, Bear Force is teaming up with KidsOut to create a fabulous reason for people to hold their picnic this National Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day, July 10th.
With adults and children all across the country enjoying picnics to celebrate Teddy Bear Week 8th-14th , the two charities are asking everyone to use the occasion to spare a thought for children who have escaped domestic abuse and living in refuge.
Richard Bland, Founder of the charity, Bear Force that encourages children to talk about what’s on their minds and importantly for adults to listen to them, said, “It is well known that talking with children in a relaxed situation, like whilst on a walk, opens dialogue, with children’s emotions flowing more freely than when asked questions directly. Picnics are perfect for this as you can get outside and chat whilst you walk.
We have been big supporters on KidsOut for some time now, with a copy of the Bear Force book being given to young children living in refuge, so the partnership works very well. We are asking if you can afford it, that when you hold your picnic this year that as part of the occasion that you go on to the Giving Tree, Fun & Happiness store, and choose a fun day out for a child living in refuge.
If you can’t go for a walk for your picnic, or the weather isn’t ideal, don’t worry, just be imaginative. A blanket on the floor indoors can be just as much fun, especially if you invite friends. And of course, make sure you all bring a teddy bear. Hey, if I can get a group of tough pilots to hold a picnic and carry a teddy bear, then there is no excuse for anyone not to.”
About Bear Force
The charity, Bear Force, was founded following the sad loss of Richard Bland’s son, Andrew, to suicide in 2013. Richard, a preferred photographer of the RAF, uses the famous teddy bear called AB Bear, in memory of his son, to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental wellbeing. The bear has become so well-known that airlines and pilots appear to be queuing up to take AB with them on flights. He has even been flown by HRH Price William.
