From September to December 2025, our second-year partnership was launched when Ride High offered placements to 16 children from their waiting list onto this year’s 12-week programme in the Milton Keynes area. This engaging 12-week programme again provided free transport, nutritious meals, creative clubroom activities, and hands-on lessons in horse care and handling.
The positive impact of this collaboration extended far beyond the practical support provided. Through building relationships with the horses, many children reported increased confidence and emotional resilience.
The children also formed meaningful connections with their group leader, Gabi, and the wider Ride High team, whose encouragement and support helped some children overcome previous fears of horses. Alongside a strong sense of achievement, the programme inspired improved social skills, stronger relationships, and, for some, new aspirations and future career goals.
One child said – ‘I used to be afraid of horses, but during the programme I have learned that they are kind animals, and I would love to become a vet when I finish school so I can care for them’.
Other children shared about friendship and the programme – ‘I have really enjoyed making friends here’ – ‘I like that I have made new friends at Ride High’ – ‘I have loved the experience’.
We observed them in the environment, and we could see that they were all happy, sharing laughter and using their creative side in the classroom, thanks to the encouragement of their group leader Gabi.
Hannah Thompson, Ride High Children’s Manager, said: “Many of the children and young people Ride High supports are struggling with poor mental health, often due to difficult circumstances including poverty, trauma, abuse and neglect. The continuing collaboration between our two charities enabled us to offer places to 16 young people in urgent need of support on a 12-week programme of horse-riding and clubroom creative activities in autumn 2026. Spending time in the tranquil surroundings of Ride High has already had a positive impact on their mental and physical health, and they will reap the benefits for years to come. We would also like to thank KidsOut for their kindness in providing Christmas gifts for all the children at the end of their course.”
- With sincere thanks to the Ride High team and everyone involved for their commitment, care, and passion in delivering a programme that has made a lasting and positive difference to so many children.
