KidsOut has a small staff that do big work. Through their commitment and passion for helping children, these people support the charity’s day-to-day functions, services and growth

Catherine Kirk

Chief Executive Officer

About Catherine

Before joining KidsOut, Catherine held several senior leadership roles at MSI Reproductive Choices and Pathfinder International, where she served as a member of their Global Leadership Teams. She led large, complex programme portfolios valued at more than £500 million, with responsibility for strategy, performance, risk management and quality service delivery. Her work included designing and overseeing flagship health and advocacy programmes across Africa and Asia, as well as strengthening partnerships with major funders including the UK government.

Alongside her executive career, she has contributed extensively as a trustee and strategic adviser in the refugee and migrant justice sector, including as Deputy Chair of Beyond Detention.

Deeply committed to supporting children affected by domestic abuse, Catherine is passionate about leading KidsOut and helping the charity expand its life-changing work. She is inspired by KidsOut’s mission to bring joy, hope and support to children facing the most challenging circumstances, and is proud to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: A doll called Polly

Sandra Doherty

Head of Children’s Services

About Sandra

Sandra Doherty is Head of Children’s Services at KidsOut and has been part of the charity for 25 years. She joined in 2001 to lead the Funds4Fun programme, helping disadvantaged children access holidays, fun days out, and positive, confidence‑building experiences.

Today, Sandra is a dedicated and compassionate leader, overseeing the strategic development and delivery of KidsOut’s work with children and families. She leads all Children’s Services, ensuring programmes are high‑quality, impactful, and closely aligned with the charity’s mission to support children living in Refuge.

Combining a strong strategic focus with a hands‑on approach, Sandra is passionate about keeping children’s safety, wellbeing, and futures at the heart of everything she does, and she is proud to help grow KidsOut’s life‑changing work for children affected by domestic abuse.

Fun facts: Sandra loves to dance, is a passionate gig‑goer, and firmly believes music makes life amazing, drawing energy and inspiration the Arts!

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: Slinky called Margo & The Sunshine Family Dolls – loved playing Jacks too!
  • BEST DAY OUT: Seaside especially Brighton on my Dad’s bus trips
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Irish Coddle (my nanna's recipe)

Sioned Parrish-James

Children’s Services Executive

About Sioned

Sioned, AKA “Shon” at KidsOut, has been part of the charity for 15 years, starting as a volunteer after graduating in Fine Art and wanting to use her creativity to support children. She is passionate about inclusion, outreach and the role of the arts in bringing positive experiences to children and young people.

Working mainly in Children’s Services, she has helped develop partnerships with women’s refuges nationwide, led the Fun Days programme since 2012, and oversees impact and evaluation. A mum of two young children, Sioned brings warmth, empathy and a cheerful, family-focused approach to KidsOut.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: Anything Sylvanian Families
  • BEST DAY OUT: Whipsnade Zoo. Loved it!
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Sticky toffee pudding!

Becci Liggitt

Children’s Services Assistant

About Becci

Becci joined the Children’s Services team at KidsOut in December 2023. Known for her love of anything to do with spreadsheets, analytics and problem solving, her main jobs include co-ordinating the Toy Box Service, CRM maintenance, providing admin support and helping deliver Giving Tree.

Born in Papua New Guinea, Becci has a strong understanding of cultural differences and inclusivity. Mother of three and grandmother of one, she has lived experience of domestic abuse, neurodiversity, and mental health.

In her spare time, she is either cold water swimming, hyper focused on a new project or spending time with her family & friends.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: I was a book worm so books were my favourite
  • BEST DAY OUT: Beach trips with family
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Friday night fish and chips

Louise Sherwood

Community Engagement Manager

About Louise

An experienced fundraiser for KidsOut, I specialise in driving income through events and community engagement.

With over 20 years of dedication, my journey began as a volunteer and has grown into a deep-rooted commitment to supporting vulnerable children and young people . I bring passion, creativity, and care to every project, building meaningful connections that inspire generosity and lasting impact.

My focus is always on creating opportunities that supporters can enjoy and be engaged with whilst they help support us, ensuring every effort contributes to brighter futures.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: My "Ra Ra" a Bugs bunny cuddly that I would often lose!
  • BEST DAY OUT: The seaside at Clacton with my nan and grandad
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Fish & Chips with lots of salt & vinegar

Laura Tibbles

Accounts Admin

About Laura

Laura has been part of KidsOut for seven years, beginning her journey as a dedicated volunteer. She now manages the running of the office in Leighton Buzzard and makes sure that everything is running smoothly while also supporting KidsOut major events.

Throughout her time with the charity, she has developed a deep passion for its mission and values. Laura is proud to work alongside a committed team focused on supporting disadvantaged children and creating joyful, meaningful experiences.

She is motivated by making a positive difference in young lives and continuing to help KidsOut grow its impact across the UK each year, nationwide today.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

Toni Forestiero

Bookkeeper

About Toni

I was born in Italy and came to England  (Bedford) with my mum and brother to join my dad, in the 50’s.

I had a few interesting jobs along the way to fit around my children’s school holidays, but eventually started running a café/restaurant which I then ran for 25 years.

I was about to retire when I was headhunted by KidsOut. I am now an the charity’s Bookkeeper and Accounts Manager.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: My fraser teddy bear
  • BEST DAY OUT: Going to Woburn Abbey and riding a horse around the abbey gardens
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: My mum’s pasta, ice-cream

Ben Harding

Trusts and Partnerships Officer

About Ben

Ben Harding is the Trusts and Partnerships Officer at KidsOut, bringing ten years of experience in the charity sector with a consistent focus on supporting children and young people. He is passionate about connecting with organisations to create positive social change.

Before joining KidsOut, Ben led teams at Envision from Bristol. His charity career began at Street League in London as Operations Manager for dance and football programmes. Before moving into the sector, Ben worked in retail for both high‑street and high‑end fashion brands.

Outside of work, his hobbies include brewing coffee, listening to an eclectic range of music and playing Lego with his 4-year-old nephew.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: Millenium Falcon with customised lasers made by my dad
  • BEST DAY OUT: Seaside trips to Cromer and Sheringham!
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Cromer crab when at the seaside

Mark Hillyard

Advocate & Warehouse Manager

About Mark

Our Advocate, Mark, brings a wealth of experience from a long and successful career in the football world, where he developed strong leadership, organisational, and team management skills through managing professional football players.

Introduced to KidsOut through his passion for helping disadvantaged children, he now oversees a busy and vital warehouse operation handling up to 100,000 toys each year. He manages the sorting, storage, and distribution of toys to vulnerable children, including those living in women’s refuges, and leads teams of dedicated volunteers whose time and commitment help make this life-changing support possible.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: BMX bike
  • BEST DAY OUT: Funfair at Great Yarmouth
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Jam roly poly and custard!

Stacey York

Social Media Coordinator & Fundraising Assistant

About Stacey

Stacey York is Social Media Coordinator and Fundraising Assistant; I am passionate about using digital platforms to bring people together and support meaningful causes. I manage the charity’s social media channels, creating engaging content and impactful campaigns that encourage awareness and inspire action.

I also work closely with the events team, supporting the planning and delivery of a wide range of fundraising events. I enjoy combining creativity and organisation to help each event run smoothly and successfully.

My connection to this work is deeply personal. Having experienced the impact of domestic abuse as a child, I am committed to supporting others who face similar challenges. This motivates me to ensure every campaign, post, and event helps raise awareness and provides vital support to those who need it most.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: My kitchen set (loved pretending to make family food)
  • BEST DAY OUT: Going to the cinema with my family
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: I was a very beige eater, so my favourite food was chicken and chips

Carina Rutter

Events Manager

About Carina

Carina joined KidsOut in 2025 and looks after fundraising events and campaigns, bringing over 30 years’ experience across executive support, operations and training and event coordination, and wanting to use her experience for a worthwhile cause in the charity sector.  

She’s highly organised, detail-focused and loves working with brilliant teams to ensure everything runs smoothly.  

When Carina first joined KidsOut she had the task of organising the charity’s largest annual event in Leeds where she built strong relationships with sponsors, partners and colleagues and the event was a success; raising vital funds for refuges in the region.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • FAVOURITE TOY: Lego!
  • BEST DAY OUT: Trips to the seaside
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Anything! But mainly spag bol

Lisa Carmel

Marketing and Public Relations

About Lisa

Lisa has built a senior career across the media industry, including with the The Mail’s regional publishing companies in the 1990s, where she developed high-level relationships with government, political parties, local authorities, and news publishers.

In 2006, she was promoted to Group Sales Director for Associated Newspapers’ print operations. As well as providing media to KidsOut which she is a passionate supporter of their services, she also provides PR services to a diverse client base including other charities, authors, sports stars, and well-known public figures.

Lisa is deeply committed to women’s and girls’ rights, child protection, and supporting women fleeing domestic abuse, including fostering their dogs whilst they live in refuges.

As a child, these were my favourite things:

  • BEST DAY OUT: Anywhere with animals
  • FAVOURITE FOOD: Angel Delight (Butterscotch flavour)
